The great spotted kiwi has many characteristics.It has long soft grey feathers with a white and reddish brown back its feather feels like fur. It is a small bird that has wings But cannot fly. It is the biggest kiwi as the size at 45cm tall. The great spotted kiwi has nostrils at the end of its beak.and it has whiskers like a cat and has incredible sense of smell.

The great spotted kiwis habitat is in a brushy mountain environment. They are found in three location on the West Coast New Zealand location of North-West Nelson,the Paparoa Range,and near Arthur's Past. They are soil feeders,kiwi prefer places where they can get straight to the dirt. The great spotted kiwi likes places like tussocks grasslands,beech forests,hardwood forest and scrub.

The great spotted kiwi has many predators and preys. They like to eat small bugs like beetles,snails,earthworm,wetas,centipedes,spiders,and freshwater crayfish. They use their size and strength to defeat their predators. The great spotted kiwi when it is a adult it can defend of most of its predators.like stoats,ferret,weasels,pigs,brush possum,cats.but have no chance of defending of dogs.
